Many months of research have prompted scientists to conclude that nature is recovering easily from the ice-storm. The power grid is another story. A year after the catastrophe it is unlikely that the system could withstand a similar storm.

The winter of 1998-1999 is going to be a nervous time for many thousands of people, especially those who live in the infamous "Black Triangle", & who endured more than three months without electricity.

Damage from falling trees, flooding, ice buildup, & lost electricity, cost millions. The cleanup would involve many months of back-breaking work trimming trees, clearing fields, yards & rooves of damage & tree parts. Much of the power distribution system would have to be rebuilt.

The beautiful colours of birch bark contrasted with the precisely captured sky blue, in juxtaposition with the sheer damage to the limbs of this tree, document & punctuate the premise of this virtual exhibit, that in the middle of crisis there is still beauty to be found.
